Yingge · Teams: a field record

This is Volume 6 of ten in the Yingge feature. It holds 29 teams so far, filterable by district and searchable by team name or place. The districts hold far more; progress is below.

This page records teams that appear in public material between March 2025 and October 2026 and whose name and place can be identified. The table keeps as much checkable information as the sources carry — team name, place, headcount, roles, performance traits and activity — and does not treat a promotional headline as a finding of fact.

How far the coverage goes 29 is the number registered with a confirmed name and place, not the number that exists

Chaoyang14 / 130-plus

Puning11 / 103

Left is recorded, right is the district total. For the other districts no total was found: Chaonan 2, Huilai 1, Raoping 1, so only confirmed numbers are given. The totals come from the Chaoyang district government reply(2025-05, marked incomplete statistics) and the provincial foreign affairs office visit note(2026-07). For how these differ from the 29, see “Two things easily misread” at the foot of the page.

Scope and how to read it

The “what the record shows” column gathers performance traits, teams’ own statements and activity from public records, each written according to where it comes from: what the picture shows is stated directly, what the team says is marked as the team’s own account, what a headline says is marked as what the headline says. Material from a team’s account or a headline is recorded as the source has it; where a source cannot support a judgement, no further inference is drawn.

What a district filter or a search returns is only what this page has registered so far, not the full number of teams in that place. Place names follow the sources; where an old township name, current administrative division or historical change is involved, a note is added.

A full Yingge team usually fields 107, which has to do with the 108-character cast and the rescue of Lu Junyi in the story performed. The headcount, roles and arrangement of any particular team are as its own record gives them, and one team’s arrangement is not generalised to all.

Headcounts, roles, the names of stick forms and appearance dates are things that can be recorded and checked; but a table alone cannot reconstruct the whole arrangement of a performance. How the steps open, how the formation turns, how the slow tempo joins the fast need observation of a complete performance and confirmation from a team leader or a inheritor. Short video can show a movement in isolation but does not necessarily preserve how a whole performance was put together.

This page goes on adding teams and field material. A team not yet registered does not mean none exists there; and differences in arrangement not yet established are not filled in with guesswork.

Teams and inheritors are not one to one: one inheritor may have led several teams, and a team may have no registered inheritor at all. People are registered by item — see Volume 10, Inheritors.

Raoping Raoping Martial Arts Yingge Team now under Chaozhou A headline says “the Yingge that knows martial arts” 2026-05-19

Chaonan was split from Chaoyang in 2003 and in the old gazetteers the two were one county; Raoping is now under Chaozhou. They are listed separately here only to match current divisions. No single account’s camera reaches every team, and a team absent from the table does not mean none exists there.

The last column gives the date as the source has it. Most rows give the posting date; in the Qiaozhu Jiudi row alone the source reports a performance before the Zhenzhu Niangniang that day, so the date is the performance date, marked in small type. Where a performance date differs from the posting date, the performance date is in the “what the record shows” column, as with the second to the 28th of the second lunar month in the Guiyu Huamei row.

Most records in this table come from publicly posted footage. The people who supplied it asked not to be named, so no account or link is attached row by row; only the date, the occasion and what can be made out in the picture are kept. To check a row one can only take the team name and date to public channels and compare; where nothing matches, this page does not fill the gap. That is a known limit of the table, not an omission.

Note also: Meihua township in Jinpu, Chaoyang, has four teams — Shangyuan Temple, Hongyixing, Yishunxing and Longwei Temple — whose own footage and stick work have a page to themselves (Meihua Yingge). The four teams’ precise locations and establishment details are still missing and they are not counted in the table: the number in the table is the number with a confirmed name and place, not the number in the district.

Access date: all eight items above were opened one by one on 23 October 2026 and were reachable that day. Two further team counts sit outside the table for want of a stable direct link: the Chaoyang team count in Southern.com, November 2024, and the Puning team count on the Puning municipal government site, January 2024; both are named in the text. The figures they record can be checked against two government documents already in the table (the Chaoyang district government reply of May 2025 and the provincial foreign affairs office’s July 2026 note on a visit), so the text sets the two accounts side by side and does not argue from the unlinked items alone. Two further pieces were read but not cited and so are not listed: the National Ethnic Affairs Commission’s “Dance drama Yingge: where the sticks rise, one family” (2026-08) and the Guangdong Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development’s “Light and shadow on the hometown of emigrants”.

Two things easily misread

This page is a record book, not a census. The two sentences below are the ones most easily taken for a total or a rule; each is given one basis. The provenance of the rest is in the dates in the table and in the source list.

1 · The 29 is not the same thing as 103 or 130-plus. The other two are district totals:Puning, 103(provincial foreign affairs office visit note, 2026-07),Chaoyang, 130-plus(district government reply, 2025-05, marked incomplete statistics); the 29 here is the number registered. Each answers a different question: how many a district has, and how many this site has confirmed. They cannot be added, nor used to vouch for each other.

2 · The “full strength of 107” is not on an official project page. The official text says “at least 12, up to 108” (Puning project page), with no 107; the 107 comes from teams’ own accounts and from reports, and this page copies it in the Jin’ou township row only.108 answers how long a team can be; 107 answers how many the cast requires — see Volume 1.
